Derslerde öğrendiğin kuralların hepsi burada. Takıldığında dönüp bakabilirsin.
| Konu | Kural | Örnek |
|---|---|---|
| Should + özne + V1 | If… should / If + present yerine (resmi, olası durum) | Should you need help, call us. |
| Were + özne + to V1 | If + past / If… were to yerine (hayali durum) | Were I to resign, they'd panic. |
| Had + özne + V3 | If + past perfect yerine (geçmişte olmayan durum) | Had I known, I'd have come. |
| Olumsuz devrik | not özneden sonra gelir, kısaltma yok | Had I not seen it… (Hadn't I ✗) |
| unless | = if… not; arkasından olumlu fiil | Unless you hurry, you'll miss it. |
| provided / as long as / on condition that | -mesi şartıyla; gelecek için present tense | You can go as long as you're back by ten. |
| but for / if it weren't for | -mese / olmasa + isim; geçmiş için if it hadn't been for | But for your help, I'd have failed. |
| otherwise · supposing · what if | yoksa · diyelim ki · ya …-se? | Hurry; otherwise we'll be late. |
Resmi yazışmalarda if düşürülür ve should cümlenin başına geçer: If you need help → Should you need help, please contact us. Anlam aynıdır ama ton çok daha resmîdir; olayın pek olası olmadığını da hissettirir.
should'dan sonra fiil her zaman yalın halde gelir: Should he call (calls ✗). Türkçedeki “-mesi halinde / olur da …-se” yapısının tam karşılığıdır.
Olumsuzda not özneden sonra gelir ve kısaltma yapılmaz: Should you not wish to continue… — “Shouldn't you wish” ✗.
Sık yapılan hata if ile should'u birlikte başa koymaktır: “If should you need…” ✗. Ya If you need ya da Should you need.

İş e-postalarının kalıbı: “Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.” Bunu ezberle, her yerde işine yarar.
Second conditional'da if düşürülüp were başa alınabilir: If I were you → Were I you. Fiil were değilse were + özne + to + V1 kullanılır: If she accepted → Were she to accept the offer, she would move.
Third conditional'da had başa geçer: If I had known → Had I known, I would have helped. Türkçedeki “Bilseydim” tek kelimedir; İngilizcede bunun en resmî ve vurgulu karşılığı Had I known'dır.
Olumsuzda yine not özneden sonra gelir: Had we not left early, we would have missed the train. — “Hadn't we left” ✗.
Dikkat: Yalnızca should, were, had başa geçebilir. “Did I know her number…” ✗ ya da “Knew I…” ✗ diye bir yapı yoktur.
Were I you, I would accept the offer.
Senin yerinde olsam teklifi kabul ederdim.
Were he to resign, the company would collapse.
İstifa edecek olsa şirket çöker.
Had I known, I'd have told you.
Bilseydim sana söylerdim.
Had I known… konuşmada da çok yaygındır: “Had I known you were coming, I'd have cooked!”
unless = if… not (-mezse, -medikçe): Unless you hurry, you'll miss the train. = If you don't hurry… unless zaten olumsuz anlam taşır; arkasından olumlu fiil gelir. “Unless you don't hurry” ✗ Türklerin en sık yaptığı hatadır.
provided (that), providing (that), as long as ve resmî on condition that = “-mesi şartıyla / -diği sürece”: You can borrow my car as long as you drive carefully.
Bu bağlaçlardan sonra gelecek için will kullanılmaz, present tense gelir: provided that you pay on time (will pay ✗).
Türkçede “-diği sürece” hem zaman hem şart anlamı taşır. İngilizcede as long as burada şart bildirir: “Bana yalan söylemediğin sürece…” → As long as you don't lie to me…
Unless you hurry, you'll miss the train.
Acele etmezsen treni kaçırırsın.
You can stay as long as you're quiet.
Sessiz olduğun sürece kalabilirsin.
We'll sign on condition that the price is reduced.
Fiyatın düşürülmesi koşuluyla imzalayacağız.
“-mezsen” duyduğunda unless + olumlu fiil kur: Unless you study → Çalışmazsan.
Bir şeyin varlığının sonucu değiştirdiğini söylemek için: If it weren't for + isim (şimdi): If it weren't for the noise, I could sleep. (Gürültü olmasa uyuyabilirdim.)
Geçmiş için If it hadn't been for + isim: If it hadn't been for your help, I would have failed. (Senin yardımın olmasaydı başarısız olurdum.)
Resmî karşılıkları: Were it not for (şimdi), Had it not been for (geçmiş) ve her iki zamanda kullanılabilen But for: But for your advice, I'd have made a mistake.
but for'dan sonra isim gelir, cümle değil: But for your help ✓ — “But for you helped me” ✗.
If it weren't for you, I'd give up.
Sen olmasan pes ederdim.
Had it not been for the doctor, she would have died.
Doktor olmasaydı ölürdü.
But for the rain, we'd have won.
Yağmur olmasaydı kazanırdık.
Zamanı sonuç kısmından anla: would + V1 → weren't for, would have + V3 → hadn't been for.
otherwise = “yoksa / aksi takdirde”. Bağlaç değil zarftır; genelde önüne nokta ya da noktalı virgül gelir: Leave now; otherwise you'll miss the bus. Konuşmada or else da kullanılır.
Türklerin sık hatası “yoksa”yı unless ile çevirmek: “Hurry, unless we'll be late” ✗ → Hurry; otherwise we'll be late ✓.
Supposing / Suppose ve What if = “diyelim ki / ya …-se?” Hayali durumda past tense kullanılır: Supposing you lost your job, what would you do? Gerçek olasılıkta present: What if the bank refuses?
Assuming (that) = “varsayarsak”: Bir şeyi doğru kabul ederek konuşursun: Assuming the train is on time, we'll arrive at six.
Take a map; otherwise you'll get lost.
Harita al, yoksa kaybolursun.
Supposing you won the lottery, what would you do?
Diyelim ki piyangoyu kazandın, ne yapardın?
What if nobody comes?
Ya kimse gelmezse?
“yoksa” = otherwise / or else; “-mezse” = unless. Karıştırma!
Bu derste ileri koşul yapılarını karışık olarak tekrar edeceksin.
Devrik koşul: Should you need… (olası), Were I to… / Were I you (hayali), Had I known… (geçmiş). Olumsuzda not özneden sonra: Had I not…
unless = if not (+ olumlu fiil), provided / as long as / on condition that = şartıyla, but for / if it weren't for = olmasa, otherwise = yoksa, supposing / what if = diyelim ki / ya…
